UNIWeb is a CV management tool that helps researchers create and maintain a Canadian Common CV (CCV), share information about their research, and connect with colleagues and collaborators on topics of interest to them.

Below are answers to some commonly asked questions about UNIWeb. Please contact ORIS if you have a question not addressed here.
Save you time! Your UNIWeb profile can be used for multiple purposes. You can use it to:
- Complete your CV and export it to the Common CV (CCV) for grant proposals – provides a smoother user interface than the CCV
- Submit your PAR electronically
- Make information about your research publicly available including links to MP3 files, PDFS, live links to research output, jpg and other media files
- Maintain an up-to-date profile on your Department’s pages
- Make connections to colleagues, collaborators, and graduate students or postdoctoral researchers under your supervision
- All of these activities are easy to use, require a single sign-in, and are dovetailed to work automatically with each other
There are a number of resources available that you can utilize to learn more about UNIWeb.
- Grant Application and UNIWeb Tutorials page: This is a page from ORIS that contain videos and accompanying documents that walk the user through some of the main functions of UNIWeb. Find the page at this link: uleth.ca/research/grant-application-uniweb-tutorials.
- UNIWeb Tutorials: When you login to UNIWeb, there is a tile at the bottom of your home page titled "Tutorials" that also contain videos and documents that showcase differenct functions of UNIWeb. Login to UNIWeb through this link: uniweb,uleth.ca.
There are two levels of control and security for your account:
- Profile page: When your account becomes active, it features a publicly visible profile page that by default includes your name, position, and email address (i.e. information that appears in the current directory). Any additional information listed on the public profile is entirely at the discretion of individual users.
- UNIWeb CV: When you enter CV information in UNIWeb (e.g. publications, teaching and service activities), this information is private by default. Some CV information can be automatically cross-posted to your profile page if you wish to make it publicly visible. Individual users have complete control over what information their UNIWeb CV contains.
- As with the current online directory, the minimal information displayed publicly is your name, position, and email address.
- UNIWeb allows you to add as much public content as you wish. If you do not wish to add further information to your public profile, simply use UNIWeb for your funding applications and PAR reports.
- You are the only person who is able to input information into your UNIWeb CV. No one else can make modifications to your CV unless you authorize it.
- The only persons who will be able to view your entire CV are the reviewer(s) to whom you would normally submit your annual activity reports (i.e., your Chair and your Dean, and their staff delegates who are normally authorized to process/handle these documents).
- In addition, Research Services will be able to access the research-only parts of your CV for the purposes of promoting your work, building research networks and reporting on university aggregate research activity (See ORIS section below).
ORIS will use information about your research stored in UNIWeb for the following purposes:
- At the individual level:
- Helping researchers with like interests connect and create meaningful collaborations
- Responding to enquiries from government, private and community funders, and major funding agencies, to provide better, more targeted matches between research activities and funding/partnership opportunities
- Identifying individuals for award nominations at appropriate career stages (e.g., RSC College of New Scholars, Trudeau Fellowships, Order of Canada, SSHRC Impact Awards, awards for specific disciplinary Societies and provincial awards)
- At the aggregate level:
- Gaining a more complete understanding of areas of strength within and across different units on campus.
- Having easy access to information about types of research grants obtained, awards and achievements, projects completed, etc.
- Viewing cumulative information about research activity to provide better support and inform strategic planning
Each time you update your CV, you can add this information to your public profile, helping you to:
- Attract potential graduate students from within and outside of the university
- Put the media in touch with your research, and enable them to contact you for your input and expertise
- Inform colleagues and potential collaborators on and off campus of your research interests and activities
- A unique feature of UNIWeb is that people are able to add tags to their CV input, which in turns links them to networks of similar research(ers) across campus.
- UNIWeb thus helps you to connect with a broader research community on campus, build your networks, and develop stronger collaborations.
- The UNIWeb CV can be downloaded into a Word document, xml file, JSON or xml file.
- The CV can upload information from the CCV website (via xml file), and publications from Google Scholar, PubMed, and EndNote. Tutorials are available to assist you.
- UNIWeb's bi-directional API also allows for the migration of data from institutional repositories (e.g. d-space).
- We had the option of storing it on the ULeth servers or with UNIWeb/Proximify. IT Services suggest we use their server as the data storage (in the Rogers Data Centre in Ottawa) is less expensive than storage at ULeth. A privacy scan of this facility has been conducted and its standards meet our security requirements.
- IT and Research Services has done a cost analysis, and the savings with UNIWEb are significant.
- Money: IT Services has assessed the faculty labour and printing costs for PARs each year, and the business case for savings on this score alone is compelling.
- Space: PAR materials are stored by Deans’ offices as part of each individual’s personnel record, and the reduction in paper ultimately will reduce physical storage requirements.
- Grant-writing Efficiencies: Because every user will effectively have a CCV ready-to-hand at all times, it removes a barrier to funding submissions for programs requiring the CCV. UNIWeb is much more user-friendly than the CCV, it can make it less frustrating to apply for federal grants – believe it or not, this has actually occurred at other institutions that have adopted UNIWeb.
- UNIWeb has been identified for its potential to replace a number of existing programs that are nearing the end of their shelf life. These include PIVOT, People.uleth.ca, Classes.uleth.ca.
- It will automatically update and dovetail with several other systems that we maintain on site, or that exist off site. These include Academia.edu, Sedona systems, Experts database.
- IT Services has done a cost analysis and foresees significant potential savings through replacing older programs and reducing the labour of multiple inputs into existing programs.
