Gambling Counselling Internet

Title of Study: Adding Contingency Management to On-Line Treatment as Usual for Gambling Disorder.

Principal Investigators: Dr. Darren R. Christensen, Executive Director Dee Ann Benard, Dr. Chad Witcher, and Dr. Trent Leighton

Who are we looking for? We are looking for people living in rural communities who are experiencing problems due to their gambling to participate in a research study. This study investigates the effects of providing small incentives for evidence of treatment success.

Participants will be randomly allocated to either regular counselling or regular counselling and small incentives. All participants will receive free individual counselling from an experienced counsellor/therapist. All the counselling is provided on-line.

What will I be asked to do? You will be asked to use a computer connected to the internet to complete tasks, answer questions, and see your counsellor. We will use cameras on the computers so both you and the counsellor can see each other. In the first session you will complete the consent form and questions about yourself. The counselling will last for 12 weeks. Each session is one hour. You can attend up to three sessions a week. You will be asked to attend a follow-up interview of one hour. Participants will be asked to complete a range of assessments. Compensation is provided.

This study has been approved by the University of Alberta’s Research Ethics Office.

Participation is confidential.
