Facilities
Artists and writers who are selected for a residency are housed in either the Studio or Cottage.
Gushul Studio
The Studio will accommodate two working artists with room for two additional non-working occupants. Priority for the Studio will be given to visual and media artists, as it provides an abundance of north light and the work space necessary to produce large two-dimensional works.
Writer's Cottage
The Writer's Cottage will accommodate a maximum of two writers
Location- Blairmore, Alberta
The Studio and Writer's Cottage are in proximity to one another in the town of Blairmore, Alberta- situated directly beside the historic Trans-Canada Railway line in the spectacular eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains.
The Crowsnest Pass encompasses a string of original coal mining towns built along the Trans-Canada Railway line, near the Alberta-British Columbia border. The historic town of Blairmore maintains its old world charms and is within easy driving distance of urban centres such as Calgary, Lethbridge and Banff. It is also very near the Canada-United States border.
It is important to note when considering this Residency, charter bus transportation to this area is no longer available, therefore access to a vehicle to get to and from the Studio or Cottage is recommended. Once on site, there are a range of goods and services (restuarants, grocery stores, laundromat, pharmacies, shops, museums, etc.) available that are a short walk from the Gushul property.
