The Campus Women’s Centre is participating in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign from Nov. 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to Dec. 10, Human Rights Day. The self-defense workshops are free.

Movies Made by Adolescents — The Experience of Direct Video in Venezuela
Wednesday, Nov. 30, noon to 1 p.m., W401
Dr. Omar Rodriguez, a professor in the Department of Modern Languages, developed a project in Venezuela where children from low income families learned to produce short films about any aspect of their reality. With the help of a non-governmental organization, three video workshops were delivered between October 2015 and June 2016. Rodriguez will show the three short films and one short documentary that resulted from the project. Total screening time is approximately 30 minutes and Rodriguez will be available to speak to media following the session.

Drs. Amy Shaw, Kristine Alexander and Elizabeth Galway will discuss their research into how the First World War affected families in Canada, including soldiers on the front and their wives and children on the home front.

Dr. Jack Mintz, the President’s Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, will discuss the policies governments have at their disposal to reduce carbon emissions, including regulations, green subsidies and carbon taxes. Admission is free.
