Private Clinics

Monday, April 23, 6:30 p.m., Rooms A & B, Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization, 500 11 St. S.

This town hall, titled Private Clinics: Problem or Solution to Accessing Care in Alberta, features Dr. Trevor Harrison, director of the Parkland Institute and a U of L sociology professor, and Sandra Azocar, executive director of Friends of Medicare.

Let’s DO Science Day

Thursday, April 26, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., B660, University Hall and various locations

The annual Let’s DO Science Day gives high school students from across southern Alberta the chance to participate in a variety of science activities at the U of L. Students will investigate parasites, cope with their impulses using physics, practice diagnosing brain abnormalities and conduct spectroscopy using Skittles.

The Investor Ecosystem – The Practical Side of Pitching to Investors

Thursday, April 26, 5 to 7 p.m., TH201, Turcotte Hall

Everyone is welcome to attend the wrap-up event to celebrate the Entreinvestor Training Program, a University-Industry Liaison Office (UILO) course that teaches the essentials of engaging with investors to secure long-term investment. Kathy Tomaszewski, Harvard lawyer and chief knowledge officer at Clausehound, will provide opening remarks. The keynote speaker is Pieter Dorsman, a venture capitalist and angel investor from Vancouver. This event will be of interest to anyone who wants to know more about entrepreneurship, contracts or finance.

Undergraduate Research in Science Conference of Alberta

Sunday, April 29, 7 to 9 p.m., Markin Hall Atrium and Monday, April 30, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., University Centre for the Arts and University Hall, various locations

This annual conference celebrates discovery and innovation at the earliest stage of post-secondary education. Undergraduate students from across Alberta will present their work in a talk or through a poster. Dr. Ute Kothe, a professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, is the scheduled guest speaker at the opening reception on Sunday, April 29. She’ll discuss the citizenship of being a researcher. Activities on Monday, April 30 include oral and poster presentations and a talk by keynote speaker Dr. David Naylor, a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, from 11:30 to 12:30 in Urban Lounge.
