U of L student builds community through Humans of ULeth project

Wednesday, December 5, 2018

Local media looking for a feel-good story for the holiday season are invited to contact Richard Lee-Thai, a University of Lethbridge student who is building a campus community one interview at a time.

Modelled after Humans of New York, the blog by Brandon Stanton that features portraits and poignant short stories from the lives of people on the streets of New York City, Lee-Thai has photographed and interviewed 28 U of L humans. He began posting to Facebook and Instagram near the end of October and has already generated hundreds of followers.

Lee-Thai transferred to the U of L from the University of Calgary in September to study music. Being away from home for the first time was an adjustment and he looked for a way to become part of the U of L community. Lee-Thai brought his experience in blogging and photography together with his passion for volunteering and community involvement to create Humans of Uleth.

“Through this project I feel I’ve become part of the community here,” he says.

Lee-Thai can be reached via email at richard.leethai@uleth.ca until Wednesday, Dec. 12.
