Destination Exploration and City of Lethbridge welcome Lethbridge School District girls to first All Girls STEM Day

Thursday, April 20, 2017

All Girls STEM Day on Monday, April 24 aims to empower, educate, and excite our future female STEM leaders.

Middle-school girls from Lethbridge School District 51 interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) have been invited to join the City of Lethbridge and Destination Exploration (University of Lethbridge) for a day full of inspiring and exciting activities, demos and discussions.

The day begins at the Galt Museum & Archives with women from the City of Lethbridge discussing the importance of city planning and infrastructure. Participants will also learn about waste management within the city and have a behind-the-scenes introduction to how our city works. During the lunch break, everyone will learn some new circuit-building skills and build their own wearable technology to take home.

Participants will then travel to the University of Lethbridge to experience life on campus and join members from the Departments of Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, Geography, and Mathematics & Computer Science for demos and activities. A big thank you goes out to Rachel Stark, Jenny Burke, Dr. Laura Chasmer and Dr. Jackie Rice for making this possible!

The All Girls STEM Day is organized by a wonderful team of enthusiastic women at the City of Lethbridge and staff at Destination Exploration. It is their goal to share their passion for STEM with young women in our community and to encourage continued participation in science as they grow. The event is also made possible by our wonderful volunteers who help organize, keep participants engaged and act as great women in STEM ambassadors.
