Thursday, May 3, 2018

WHAT: The University of Lethbridge’s $280-million Science & Academic Building’s (SAB) interior is taking shape, with the project recently hitting the 75 per cent completion milestone. The SAB’s atrium and classrooms, along with the case work in several labs are quickly becoming a reality. For the first time, media will be given access to the interior of the building.

WHEN: Saturday, May 5, 11 a.m.

WHERE: University of Lethbridge Destination Project Office (Please park in the small parking lot near the office, map attached)

The day will begin with a safety briefing, followed by a media tour through the building. Members of the University of Lethbridge project management team, faculty and PCL Construction will be available for interviews afterward.

The tour is scheduled for Saturday as the number of workers on site decreases by 80 per cent, allowing for a safer and quieter tour.

Please RSVP by noon on Friday, May 4 with number of participants to: elaine.vanrootselaar@uleth.ca

Everyone joining the tour is required to wear pants and closed-toe shoes and will need to participate in a short safety briefing. Participants are also required to wear personal protective equipment provided by the Destination Project office.

About the SAB

The Science and Academic Building is one-of-a-kind in Canada. This state-of-the-art facility will establish the University of Lethbridge as a leader in transdisciplinary science. Sustainably designed with the local climate in mind, students, faculty and the community of Lethbridge will come together under one roof to create, inquire and discover. Science will be put on display through open and flexible laboratory environments making the discoveries visible to the public through glass walls. Large, community outreach spaces will allow programs like Destination Exploration and Let’s Talk Science thrive, enriching a new generation of creative and innovative discoverers.
