40-course Bachelor of Management (BMgt) Degree

Building on a year of foundational liberal arts studies followed by a professional study in management, the Bachelor of Management (BMgt) degree prepares students for careers in business, industry, education, and government.

If you are a direct high school/secondary school transfer, a mature student, or a general post-secondary course credits transfer student (i.e. you have not yet been awarded with a 2-year college diploma, a 3 or 4 year Bachelors degree, a graduate degree, or their recognized equivalents, at the time of application to uLethbridge), then you may be eligible for admission into the university's standard, 40-course (120.0 credits), BMgt degree. While 40-courses is the base duration of the BMgt degree if starting from Year 1 (i.e. as a direct high school transfer), this number may be reduced, depending on if the successfully admitted student has completed any post-secondary level coursework (academic/for-credit) from their prior schools and been subsequently determined by Admissions to have received recognized transfer credit for individual ones, where merited.

All successfully admitted BMgt degree students are given up to a maximum of 10 years to graduate from their program, following their first semester of study.

At the Calgary Campus, 1-of-5 majors can be pursued within the 40-course BMgt degree program (click on the below links for more details):

*Note: The 40-course BMgt degree program's 5 other declarable majors, as listed below, are currently all exclusive to the Lethbridge Campus, at this time:

• Computer Science (CPSC)
• Economics (ECON)
• Indigenous Governance & Business Management (IGBM) - formerly 'First Nations' Governance'
• International Management (IMGT)
• Political Science (POLI)

1-of-3 possible admission routes. Confirmed route will be determined by Admissions and based on the applicant's highest level of education achieved at the time of application:

1. High School/Secondary School Transfer Route
   • General High School Admission Requirements
     • Canadian High School Transfers (organized by Canadian province/territory)
       • Minimum average of 65% or higher in five (5) grade 12-level courses (25.0 credits)
         • One of these five courses must be English 30-1, or its recognized equivalent (non-negotiable)
         • The remaining four courses which are to be counted towards one's admission average cannot be a Special Project and must be worth at least 5.0 credits each
           • Two 3.0 credit courses combined = one 5.0 credit course
     • International Secondary School Transfers (sorted alphabetically by country)
   • Additional Faculty-specific Admission Requirements - The (undergraduate) Math Admission Requirement for entry into undergraduate programs conferred by the Dhillon School of Business
     • The successful completion of one of the following two grade 12-level math courses, or their recognized equivalents (e.g. A or AS-level math for for those whose secondary education was structured via the British model), is non-negotiable for all domestic and international high school/secondary school transfer applicants
       • MATH 30-1/Pure Math 30 will be accepted for all BMgt majors, but is non-negotiable for the "quantifiable majors" of: ACCT, FINC, and ECON
       • MATH 30-2 will only be accepted for the BMgt degree's "non-quantifiable" majors: AGEM, CPSC, GMGT, HRLR, IGBM, IMGT, MKTG, and POLI
     • *Note: Athabasca University's online-delivered MATH 101 (Transitional Mathematics) course - with a final grade of a 75% or higher - is confirmed to be a comparable equivalent to MATH 30-1/Pure Math 30
2. Post-Secondary Course Credits/General Transfer Route (link) - Those who attended post-secondary level schooling but who do not possess either an awarded college diploma or an academic degree to their name)
   • Applicants presenting 6+ graded and transferable university-level term courses (18.0+ credit hours) must have achieved a CGPA of no lower than 2.00 (on a 4.0 scale) on them at the time of application to uLethbridge
     • High school marks will not be factored into admission GPA calculations for these particular transfer students however, they may be necessary for individual uLethbridge course prerequisite purposes
   • Applicants presenting 5 or fewer transferable courses (<= 15.0 credit hours) will concurrently have their high school marks assessed as part of their uLethbridge admission GPA
   • The aforementioned Math Admission Requirement will continue to be applicable for all Post-Secondary Course Credits Transfer students
     • General transfer students (non-degree/diploma holders) who did not complete an appropriate Grade 12-level math course within their prior high school/secondary school education but have completed and passed at least one, 3.0-credit, university-level mathematics or statistics area course at the time of application to uLethbridge, will be considered as sufficiently meeting the Dhillon School of Business' math admission requirement.
   • A maximum of 20 courses (60.0 credits) can be awarded for transfer credit towards the BMgt degree (best-case-scenario)
3. Matriculated Students/Adult Admission (link)
   • Applicants who are (1) Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, (2) at least 21 years of age by the first day of classes of the intended term of intake, AND (3) who do not fulfill the requirements for any other above-provided admission routes (i.e. those who only have a non-academic post-secondary/trades background or those with only work experience to their name) will be considered for general admission, as outlined in the above link.
   • The number of seats available for Non-Matriculated Adult Admission will be limited (as determined each term)

*All intake-specific application periods will close at 11:59pm (MST) on the deadline date indicated above.

*Undergraduate program application periods for subsequent intake terms will normally open via ApplyAlberta by no earlier than one year in advance.

  • Fall 2021 intake = applications first opened on Sept 1, 2020
  • Spring 2021 intake = applications first opened on Jan 15, 2020

*IMPORTANT: Due to our small size, the Calgary Campus currently does not possess any of its own institutionally-managed housing (onsite or offsite) services for admitted students, at this time. As a result, all inbound out-of-city/out-of-country students who are in need of living accommodations within the City of Calgary while they pursue their academic studies with uLethbridge, will be responsible for sourcing and coordinating their own living arrangements via researching local listing websites, such as (but not limited to):

All successfully admitted undergraduate and graduate program students (domestic and international) are provided with the opportunity to apply into the university’s Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated Learning Program (“Co-op” for short) as a way to supplement their studies and enhance the value of their program and potential employment prospects upon graduation. Co-op job positions will usually consist of full-time paid work experience and will be typically related to the student’s respective area of study/major.

At this time, Co-op Work Terms are not built directly into any given uLethbridge credential program’s curriculum and are also not required for graduation purposes, at this time – that is, they are 100% OPTIONAL, meaning that a student can fully graduate from their respective uLethbridge credential program without pursuing a Co-op.

Admission into Co-op will entail its own separate application process to which individual students can elect to apply for at any time during their studies (even during one's first year) so long as it is accomplished before formally applying to graduate from the university during their last term of study.

Students may elect to declare up to a maximum of two (optional) minors within a single undergraduate-level certificate or Bachelors degree program, either at the time of application or added at any point during one's studies prior to graduation.

Minors are defined as a set of 6 distinct courses (18.0 credits), per minor, which are to be completed on-top of the student's base coursework in their primary program and ultimately aim to provide learners with a fundamental depth of knowledge in a particular sub-discipline (which do not necessarily have to be related to one's major or program faculty). Upon the successful completion of all calendar-mandated course requirements, the student's chosen minor(s) will be denoted on their official uLethbridge transcript.

While there are 47 possible undergraduate minors to select from with uLethbridge, the Calgary Campus however can only guarantee completion for the following 6 at this time, due to our small size:

1. Accounting - Cannot be declared by ACCT majors
2. Health Leadership
3. International Management - Cannot be declared by IMGT majors. Will entail the completion of at least one full-term/4-month outbound international exchange
4. Marketing - Cannot be declared by MKTG majors
5. Mental Health
6. Population Health

Consult the current undergraduate Academic Calendar ("Minors" section) to determine which exact courses are to be completed in order to satisfy the curriculum requirements for specific minors. Minor course requirements can be subject to change with every new calendar year. uLethbridge's 41 other declarable undergraduate minors, as listed in the Calendar, are exclusive to the Lethbridge Campus, at this time

*IMPORTANT: No undergraduate minor can be fully completed in one single semester as not all associated courses are offered every term. In addition, many minors will entail courses with specific pre-requisite conditions, which means that said courses will need to be completed in a certain sequential order due to their progressive knowledge-building/laddering structures.
